The ORFC season reaches its exciting climax this Sat at 2.30 PM as Astley park and the Maroon and Amber underdogs compete in their first Devon Senior Cup final for twenty years.
Its remarkable that just back in 2005 the Okes were winning the Devon Junior Cup whilst plying their trade in Devon league One. There has been great progress over recent years, culminating this season with the firsts ending up mid table in their first season back at level 6 in SW1 . Finishing as highest placed Devon side and reaching the Cup final as a fitting finale. The superb seconds have also had a remarkable campaign, securing the Devon Senior One merit table title after seeing off the second teams of National League sides Exmouth and Barnstaple along the way. With a Colts side and a newly reformed thirds/ legends taking to the field again things are definitely on an upward trend at the Showground these days.
However the focus now moves onto Saturday and the chance of silverware. All associated with the Okes will send their best wishes to the lads as they take on Brixham , near the top of the league above, and a side with a strong recent tradition in the Devon Senior Cup. The Oke side has been selected, and apart from Prop Pat Nash (injury) and player Coach Gaz Evans ( Navy duty at Twickers) the 25 man matchday squad contains all the walking wounded from last week's Clevedon concrete- surfaced warm up!
A spectators and players bus leaves the club at 11 am, but many will also make their way south by car. Please make sure you are one of the Oke travelling band that will turn up and support the side throughout this fantastic finale..good luck to all involved...let's give it our best shot..
"Come On You Okes!"
