This Saturdays 1st team fixture heralds the eagerly anticipated Devon derby with Bideford. The first league meeting between the sides since February 2013-The Okes last league visit to King George's Field ending in a 34-13 defeat. Okes were also beaten 19-0 at Bideford in a Devon Intermediate Cup tie in Dec 2014. Biddy, like the Okes, had several seasons of league fluctuations before establishing themselves as a top half SW1 side.
Tight matches between the two sides go back decades, players have also often turned out for both sides as the links continued. The latest to represent both sides is current Biddy talisman Dean Folland. A product of Oke's junior set up, Dean also made his senior bow in the Maroon and Amber and will be lining up against many former teammates this Saturday.
Okehampton are ninth in South West One West – four places and six points behind Bideford – after their five points deduction. However last week's superb victory over second placed Thornbury sets the Okes up nicely for this week's tough away trip. Okes have shown they are a match for anyone at home, but now need to replicate that form on the road as they travel North to take on Biddy on their relaid pitch, one that is now recognised among the finest surfaces in the County.
The Oke side will not be selected until later today, details will be posted here later this evening. Don't forget the super twos are also taking on their Bideford counterparts at home, and both matches will kick off at 2.30 PM. Whilst the reformed legendary thirds travel to Cullompton for their latest fixture.
So please don your Maroon and Amber match day outfit and come along to give the lads your vocal encouragement. Your support really makes a difference...
..."Come On You Okes!"
